“One Book, One Community: Stillwater Reads Woody Guthrie” events continue with a panel discussion on “Woody Guthrie’s Life and Legacy” on Monday, March 25 at 7 p.m. at the Stillwater Public Library.

Panelists for the presentation include Dr. Guy Logsdon, speaking on Woody Guthrie’s childhood and adolescence, Dr. Davis Joyce discussing Oklahoma politics and its influence on Guthrie’s life and Stanton Doyle with the George Kaiser Family Foundation sharing the story of the relocation of the Woody Guthrie Archives to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Logsdon, a retired University of Tulsa professor, is an internationally recognized authority on Woody Guthrie and the author of “Woody's Road: Woody Guthrie's Letters Home, Drawings, Photos, and Other Unburied Treasures” which he co-authored with Guthrie’s sister, Mary Jo Guthrie Edgmon.

Joyce, retired from a teaching career spent mostly at the University of Tulsa and East Central University in Ada, still teaches part-time at Rogers State University.  He is author of “An Oklahoma I Had Never Seen Before: Alternative Views of Oklahoma” and “Alternative Oklahoma: Contrarian Views of the Sooner State”.  Woody Guthrie is central to both of these books.

Doyle is Senior Programming Assistant for the George Kaiser Family Foundation which has purchased the Woody Guthrie Archives from the Guthrie family with plans to open the Woody Guthrie Center on April 27.  For more information visit online at www.woodyguthriecenter.org
