Women of the Wild West Shows Exhibit

Name: Women of the Wild West Shows Exhibit
Date: July 25, 2015
Event Description:
In conjunction with the Smithsonian traveling exhibit Hometown Teams, the Pioneer Woman Museum has created a new exhibit highlighting the women who organized, managed, and performed in Wild West shows. These skilled women toured the world in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, influencing millions with their courage, determination, and independence. The women of the Wild West shows represented idealized images of the past, but they were also agents of cultural change who challenged the expectations of what women were capable of doing.

Pioneer Woman Museum staff members have collaborated with the 101 Ranch, the Pawnee Bill Ranch, and the Oklahoma Historical Society to assemble displays and artifacts that tell the stories of the female athletes and organizers who spread the idea of equality far beyond the frontier. The exhibit will run through 2016.
