WELCOME to Tour of Payne, the Red Dirt Pedaler’s annual bicycle ride celebrating Payne County, the place "where Oklahoma began" — the start of the 1889 Land Run in North Stillwater.
Bring your family and friends and make a weekend out of it! Before and/or after the tour, plan on spending the night at one of the local hotels offering a special cyclist/family discount just for Tour of Payne participants and their families.
On Saturday afternoon or Sunday, relax with a stroll through the Oklahoma Botanical Gardens and Arboretum, tour the OSU campus and marvel at the new stadium and the construction of the future Athletic Village, eat a leisurely lunch at one of the city’s numerous restaurants, shop or dine downtown Main Street, or enjoy one of the city’s many parks. Both Lake Carl Blackwell and Lake McMurtry west of town have campsites, and Lake McMurtry has a spanking new frisbee golf course and 30 miles of mountain bike singletrack!
Historical locations you may want to visit include Stillwater’s Sheerar Museum, Yale’s Jim Thorpe Park, the site of the Ingall’s shootout, and the Washington Iriving Trail Museum.
