The Stillwater Public Library features all categories of the performing arts this week including theater, commercials and film. The performances are part of “Summer @ Your Library,” an eight week reading club which lets participants earn prizes and chances into even larger prize drawings. The program is open to children and young adults of all ages and includes weekly activities and live performances.
On Tuesday, July 16, the Rana McCoy children’s operetta gives its premiere performance of “Penny Ante Pirates,” a tale about pirates who invade a quiet seaside village.
McCoy organizes and directs a yearly performance which is showcased at the library each summer. This year, McCoy had help from Highland Park librarian Diane Dean, who is also one of McCoy’s operetta assistants. Dean wrote the original story and script, while McCoy provided the music and lyrics for the show.
“Penny Ante Pirates” will be performed at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
