Name: Summer @ Your Library
Date: June 1, 2014 - July 24, 2014
Event Description:

Registration begins May 12

Science is exploding at the Stillwater Public Library’s summer reading program.  Area children are encouraged to “Fizz! Boom! Read!” while the teens will “Spark a Reaction” all summer long.  “Summer @ Your Library” will offer free programs such as the Reading Club, weekly programs, movies, and great prizes. Registration for the free programs begins Monday, May 12.

“Summer reading benefits children all year long,” said library director Lynda Reynolds.  “The program reduces “Summer Slide,” which is the loss in learning children have during their three month break.  Summer entertainment reading reduces that loss by a third.”

By joining the Reading Club, participants will receive a free information bag with activity sheets, bookmarks and reading logs.  Children will also receive a coupon for a free “Fizz! Boom! Read!” logo which they can take to Chris’ University Spirit.  A t-shirt may be purchased or brought from home and the logo will be applied at no charge. Children who wear their “Fizz! Boom! Read!” t-shirts to the programs will be eligible for prize drawings each week.

Members who read (or are read to) for ten hours or more will qualify for the Awards Ceremony on July 24.  The Awards Ceremony is by invitation and this year string-master and storyteller David Titus will entertain families following the awards.

Members who read additional hours will also qualify for the following drawings:

15 hours - five $20.00 gift cards provided by Sylvan Learning Center
20 hours - seven classroom performance by Monty Harper
30 hours – the Grand Prize, a one year Level One family pass to the Oklahoma Wondertorium, valued at $150

The Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals will start off the summer with a bang on Sunday, June 1, from 2-3 p.m. with a science themed Summer FunFest.  The event will include crafts, experiments, pictures with a costume character, presentations by OSU scientists, popcorn, prizes and more.  Activities are geared toward children ages 5-10.  Parents are asked to remain with their children throughout the event.

“Fizz! Boom! Read!” programs after the kick-off will be held Tuesdays from June 3 through July 22 with three presentations at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Stillwater Public Library Auditorium:

The first 100 young adults who read at least twenty hours will receive a “Spark a Reaction” t-shirt. For every ten hours read, participants will receive one entry into the end of summer grand prize drawing.
