Oklahoma’s 600,000 Medicare beneficiaries can learn more about their enrollment options during a series of Senior Summits conducted by the Oklahoma Medicare Assistance Program (MAP). The events are designed to prepare Medicare beneficiaries for open enrollment, which takes place from October 15 to December 7. Any changes made during this time go into effect Jan. 1, 2014.
The free events, held at 14 locations across the state, are funded through a grant provided by the Senior Health Insurance Counseling Program (SHIP). The summits will be held from Aug. 1 to Sept. 19.
During last year’s open enrollment period, MAP counselors helped more than 7,000 Medicare beneficiaries review their plans. Their average savings was between $500 and $1,000. One individual, after reviewing her Part D drug plan, had the opportunity to save $33,000.
Those who can’t attend a Senior Summit are encouraged to call MAP at 1-800-763-2828.
