The Stillwater Public Library has made numerous changes to its online presence over the past year. The website now boasts a new design, a new catalog and many new services. To help cardholders navigate these improvements, the library will provide a series of classes and labs on how to use them.
“We’ve made it a priority to find ways for readers to use the library 24 hours a day, everyday,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “We started with adding eBooks and continued by adding Zinio, a new eMagazine service.”
On Wednesday, November 5, at 3:30 p.m., the topic will change to Enterprise, the library’s new catalog. During the first hour, participants will learn how to do general searches, place holds, renew items and use their online accounts. The second hour includes instruction on some of the more complex functions like suspending holds, targeted searches, making lists and using the social, readers’ advisory and “Buy It Now” features.
“The “Buy It Now” feature is brand new,” said Reynolds. “If you are planning to buy a book, DVD or audio we have from an online store like Amazon, we hope you will purchase it through our catalog. When you make a purchase from places like Amazon through our catalog, the library receives a portion of the price from the retailer.”
The next program on Thursday, Dec. 4, will provide help for people using Overdrive, the library’s downloadable service for over 22,000 eBooks and 5,000 eAudios. This summer, the library added a children and teens browsing room, as well as streaming videos.
Users will be scheduled for sessions between 1-4 p.m. Those attending should bring a library card, email address and mobile device, tablet, laptop or smartphone. Kindle users should also bring their Amazon.com log-in information.
“We are planning more of these library information programs in the future,” said Reynolds. “But you don’t need to register for a class to get help. The librarians are always available to assist customers with any of their questions.”
To register for any of the three sessions, please call the Help Desk at (405) 372-3633 x8106 or email askalibrarian@stillwater.org. For more information on any of the library services, visit
