Time: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM CDT

In 1960, author John Steinbeck struck out for the open road with a specially fitted truck and his poodle Charley. Steinbeck and Charley traveled the entire perimeter of the country, driving from New York to the Pacific Northwest, down to California, across the South and back up to New York again.

Steinbeck’s journey is documented in his bestselling travelogue, “Travels with Charley: In Search of America,”and is the topic of the Stillwater Public Library’s “Let’s Talk About It” discussion on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m.

The discussion for “Travels with Charley” features Dr. Trisha Yarbrough, a former professor of English. Yarbrough will provide background and commentary on Steinbeck’s classic, and then participants will split into small discussion groups to talk about themes within the book.

The series is free and open to the public. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Help Desk, but reading the book it is not necessary for participation. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library.
