The Friends of the Library’s annual fall book sale begins Thursday, Sept. 26 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 29. The sale will be held on the second floor of the north building at the Stillwater Public Library..
“This is our biggest fall sale since the Friends of their Library split their yearly sale into two,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “Books are bursting out of the sorting room, so I have no doubt community members will find everything they want at the sale.”
The Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization that helps raise funds for the Stillwater Public Library through its book sales. A members’ preview will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 from 5-8 p.m. which will give members first shot at the 25,000 books, DVDs, audiobooks and magazines.
“Even if you are not a friend of the library now, you can easily become one at the door,” said Reynolds. “Memberships are $10 per year, so those who bought a spring membership will be admitted for free.”
Purchasing on Thursday is limited to 100 books and 50 children’s books per membership. Costs are $1 for hardbacks and 50 cents for paperbacks, DVDs and audiobooks. Children’s books will also be on sale for 25 cents apiece.
The sale opens to the public Friday, Sept. 27 at noon and will run until 8 p.m. It resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m.
The last day of the sale, Sunday, Sept 29, is reserved for the bag sale. Shopping bags, which have been donated by Consumers, will cost $1 each, and can be filled with as many books as they will hold. The bag sale will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
While a small portion of the books are taken from the library collection, eighty percent or more are donated by the community.
“We are grateful to community members for their year round book donations,” said Reynolds. “As people clean out their homes or have garage sales, we hope they will remember to bring their books to the library for our sales.”
According to Reynolds, donations to the library can be brought during library hours and tax receipts are available. The library is the only place to donate books for the booksale. Other bins in town do not benefit the library.
