Exercise Prescription for Healthy Aging
There has been a growing awareness among health care professionals of the importance of appropriate exercise habits in promoting healthy aging. This awareness stems from the results of experimental studies on physical activity that indicate exercise may contribute to better physical, psychological and cognitive health. To understand the potential role of exercise in the aging process and to incorporate it, health care professionals should understand the risks and benefits of various types of physical activity. This presentation will provide an overview of the various components of physical fitness for older adults, review the benefits of various forms of exercise in healthy aging and discuss effective tools for prescribing exercise for healthy aging.
