On Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 1:30 p.m., Randy Freeland and Laura Payne will present a program on helping retirees turn their brown thumbs green in “Container Gardening.” The class is part of the OSU Emeriti Association’s monthly retirement series, “Making the Most of Retirement,” which meets each month at Stillwater Public Library
According to Payne, a Master Gardener, container gardening is the perfect solution for retirees who enjoy growing their own flowers and vegetables.
“Pretty much anything, like vegetables, flowers, herbs, can be grown in a container depending on their size, location and water supply. However, there are also certain types of plants that do better in containers than others. Small pots need fairly drought resistant plants, unless you want to water daily during the hot summer.”
Payne is a Master Gardener and the volunteer coordinator at the OSU Botanical Gardens. She will be assisting Freeland with the presentation. Freeland is retired from the Natural Resources Conservation Service and is also a Master Gardener.
