Purchase a gift or volunteer your time and be a Holiday Hero this year
YPS is again partnering with Stillwater Exchange Club and the Department of Human Services to put on Holiday Heroes, a Christmas party for all foster families of Payne County. Typically, there are over 100 foster children in the county this time of year and Holiday Heroes gives these families a chance to relax and be honored. The event features appearances by Pistol Pete, OSU athletes, and of course Santa Claus. Every foster child receives a gift from Santa as well as dinner and door prizes for the entire family. All of this is donated by community members and generous Stillwater organizations.
There are several ways that you can be a hero through YPS:
Purchase a gift for a foster child. Every foster child receives a $25 gift from Santa at the event. Instead of an angel tree, we have Hero Cards. Each card identifies the first name, age, wish list, and gender of the foster child along with instructions for purchase and drop off. If you would like to sponsor a gift (or multiple gifts), please email philip.goodwin@okstate.edu with any specific criteria you prefer (gender, age, etc.).
Volunteer your time by helping us wrap presents. YPS members will be wrapping gifts at Life Church on December 12 beginning at 5:30 PM. Dinner and all of the supplies will be provided, so just come and help wrap. The more hands we have, the faster it will go. Please RSVP your attendance in advance to philip.goodwin@okstate.edu.
Volunteer at the event. The actual party will take place the evening of Friday, December 13. Volunteers will assist with setup, facilitating games and tear down. Because of confidentiality issues, all volunteers must email their interest in advance to philip.goodwin@okstate.edu.
Please consider being a hero to our local foster children and their very giving families. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Philip Goodwin at philip.goodwin@okstate.edu or (405) 747-4990.
