Name: American Sign Language Class
Date: May 2, 2013 - May 28, 2013
Event Description:

Community members interested in learning sign language are invited to enroll in a four-week Conversational American Sign Language class to be held at the Stillwater Public Library May 2-May 28.  The course, which will meet from 6-7 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday, is offered by OSU Arts and Sciences Outreach.

“The signing classes have been very popular,” said library director Lynda Reynolds.  “We’re excited to have a strong partnership with OSU which allows us to be the center for these community opportunities.”
The non-credit class will be taught by instructor Sandie Busby and will include vocabulary and dialogue lessons, deaf culture lectures and other learning activities.

Busby, an OSU instructor, is the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Specialist in OSU’s Student Disability Services and developed the university’s ASL program.

“This is a very interactive series,” said Busby.  “Students won’t just learn vocabulary.  They will practice dialogue and have opportunities outside the class so they can put their new skills to practical use.”
Early bird registration for the class is $99 until April 18.  After that date, the class fee is $109.  Books are included in the tuition.

Online registration is available at http://asoutreach.okstate.edu/community/asl-conversational-asl.  For more information, please contact Christine Nichols with Arts and Sciences Outreach at 405-744-8459 or Christine.nichols@okstate.edu
