Help us welcome Gloria Torres and Ellen Buettner from the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women to the May Women's Professional Council.

A life-long Oklahoman, Ms. Gloria Torres was born and raised in South Oklahoma City.  In 2014 Gloria became the first Latina to hold a publicly elected office in the state of Oklahoma when she was elected to the Oklahoma City Public Schools' Board of Education. She was appointed to the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women in 2015 and elected as the Vice-Chair in 2016.

In addition to her elected and appointed board service she has, and continues to serve on various boards including Habitat for Humanity, Community Action Agency, Capitol Hill Business District, American Heart Association - Vestido Rojo and others.

Gloria has spent her professional and personal life enhancing the lives of others with an emphasis on the progress of women and children through education and community development. Raised by a single mother who overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles taught her the value of strength and independence. These early life experiences and challenges have been the unrelenting drive for Gloria to be The Change in her own community.

In recognition of her professional and civic accomplishments, she was recently named as one of the Oklahoma City's Journal Record 50 Making a Difference. She earned her undergraduate degree from UCO and went on to earn her Master's degree at Texas Women's University.

Ellen Buettner serves as the Senior Director of Governmental Relations and Public Accountability for the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

The Women's Professional Council is designed to inspire, support and empower professional businesswomen of all ages by offering networking and educational opportunities that allow women to be their best self and excel in their chosen career path. The council organizes speakers on topics relating to women's health, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, leadership, management, politics and balance living.
