The first Women's Professional Council will take place on Tuesday, January 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center. The premier speaker of the kick-off event will be the First Cowgirl herself, Ann Hargis. OSU First Cowgirl, Ann Hargis, will talk about OSU’s commitment to wellness and the variety of wellness programs available. She will also talk about her own personal journey in understanding the concept of wellness and the impact it has had on her life.

Ann Hargis became the "First Lady", or "First Cowgirl", of Oklahoma State University when her husband, Burns, took office as the 18th President of OSU System on March 10, 2008. In addition to partnering with President Hargis on activities with students, faculty, alumni donors and others, she is active across the campus and involved in several community organizations.

On the OSU campus, Ann is involved with Friends of the Library, Friends of  Music, and the Women for OSU Leadership Philanthropy Council. She was also instrumental in developing and launching OSU’s nationally unique Pet Therapy Program, Pete’s Pet Posse, and is an active participant with her therapy dog, Scruff.
Sharing her love for good health and physical fitness, she has taken a leadership role in OSU’s wellness efforts and the university’s position as America’s HEALTHIEST Campus ®.  She frequently provides“taxi” service to students in her orange golf cart, Clementine.

In October 2014, Mrs. Hargis was recognized as Oklahoma Woman of the Year by the Journal Record for her service to the community and leadership in the area of wellness.
Prior to coming to Stillwater, Ann was actively involved in community and volunteer work in Oklahoma City in an assortment of areas, including health and children’s issues and the arts. She was a member of Leadership Oklahoma Class V.
Mrs. Hargis and her husband have two married children - son Matt and his wife Michelle, and daughter Kate Haas and her husband Richard; and three grandchildren - Peighton, Preston and Oliver.

The Women's Professional Council is designed to inspire, support and empower professional businesswomen of all ages by offering networking and educational opportunities that allow women to be their best self and excel in their chosen career path.
