Name: Culture Shock
Date: October 15, 2022
Time: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
One of our pillars is cultural awareness and by cultural awareness, we mean understanding the differences and beauty of different cultures and fighting against the notion of grouping all cultures into one category. There is a variety of different cultures here at OSU, and we want to share that beauty and value with the community here, which is why we created this event. We want Culture Shock to be an event that advances the knowledge of the community about the diverse culture and heritage on campus. It is an event that resonates with people and gives them the opportunity to learn something new about different cultures and ethnic communities to better understand and create an impact on our Stillwater community and university on the diverse cultures it has. We ask various Stillwater and campus organizations to present a cultural activity such as a greeting, dance, game, food, cultural artisan, or a discussion raising awareness to a cultural matter or an issue that affects their organization. When attendees arrive, they will receive a "passport" and will receive a stamp after they visited each organization. After they visit all the tables, they will be given a free t-shirt! This is the fifth year we are hosting this annual event, and we see over 400 people attend each year. This year, we will not only be extending it to OSU students but also to the town of Stillwater by hosting it near main street instead of on the OSU campus which is why we are bringing in different vendors to bring in more attendees.
