Event Description:

Join us to hear from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister. Joy will share what her role as state superintendent looks like, the challenges she faces and how she works to overcome those challenges. Learn firsthand how her department works to promote high-quality education for all children in our state. As an elected official, she understands the importance of women being involved in our government and the best ways to start that journey.

Joy has championed a host of education reforms, including the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which replaces No Child Left Behind and returns autonomy to states and local districts.

In the midst of a dire state budget crisis, Joy has led a number of efforts to improve public education in Oklahoma. She has consistently advocated for raising teacher pay to the regional average, and in spring 2016, her plan to offer the ACT to every high school junior in Oklahoma was met with wide participation. She was the architect of a new law that ushers in a new culture of meaningful instruction that focuses on lifting outcomes for every student.

The Women's Professional Council is designed to inspire, support and empower professional businesswomen of all ages by offering networking and educational opportunities that allow women to be their best self and excel in their chosen career path. The council organizes speakers on topics relating to women's health, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, leadership, management, politics and balanced living.
